Don Richard Riso pioneered a new way of working with the Enneagram when he introduced the Levels of Development in 1977.
Don Richard Riso was one of the most influential teachers and developers of the Enneagram
Don passed away on August 30th, 2012, after dedicating 25 years of his life as an Enneagram teacher, author, and developer. Don started working full-time on the Enneagram in 1975 after 13 years as a member of the Jesuit order in New Orleans Province. He is the co-founder of The Enneagram Institute (1995), the author of several bestselling books, and one of the founders of the International Enneagram Association.
Levels of Development is one of Don Richard Riso largest contributions
Today the Levels of Development are incorporated in mostly all teaching of the Enneagram, and not many teachers would teach the Enneagram without explaining the one type can be expressed differently depending on the levels of presence. The Levels explain how the inner dynamic works between type types when under pressure and how the Instincts and Three Centers work when out of balance. In 2002 Don and Flemming Christensen started collaborating, and Flemming founded The Enneagram Institute of Denmark. That year Don and Russ Hudson visited Denmark for the first time as THINK ABOUT IT hosted the first Enneagram workshop by international teachers. That workshop was a unique starting point for the high awareness of the Enneagram now in Denmark.
The Riso-Hudson Enneagram Type Indicator (RHETI)
The Riso-Hudson Enneagram Type Indicator (RHETI) might be the one most used Enneagram-test in the world. It was groundbreaking work done by Don and Russ to design this simple and yet scientifically proven tool working more than two years to adjust and finetune the language used in the test. It is now found in several languages including English, French, German, Japanese, Spanish, Dutch, Swedish and Russian. It is created by Don and Russ Hudson after joined Don in 1991.
